GAME OF PATIENCE

Image
LT COL NOEL ELLIS   21/IX/21   There was a time when people used to say that Angling is a game of patience. It is also a game of waiting, luck & a game of chance. I was reminded of my childhood.   Hopping on to Dad's bi-cycle carrier on his fishing trips can never be forgotten. Those days the game was played with assorted baits. Spinners and flies were not his style. In case lures were used, they were live frogs for fish like Mali & Saul.   Preparation for a good catch needed knowledge and experience. The local weather, speed of water in the river, sun and shade, fellow anglers and their location in respect to yours mattered. Above all it was the ‘mood’ of the fish which mattered more.   Then would be the ‘wait’ after the cast. Sometimes the line would get entangled, the float would sink as the weights were not adjusted to the correct depth of water. The current would be too fast for the line to be stable. Sudden winds would make the line drift.

WHAT AN EXOTIC COLOUR, FIRST BLOOM ๐Ÿ’š๐ŸงกDIL ๐Ÿ’ž❤KHUSH ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ’–
AN EVENTFUL MORNING   LT COL NOEL ELLIS   20/IX/2021   A night with very heavy rains was what we had in store. Like Elephants and Hippos it poured. Birds and flowers bore the maximum brunt.   The pitter-patter of the rain on the leaves sung such a beautiful lullaby that it was when one finishes his walk that one got up. Generally, one would rush, but not today and I almost fell asleep again. The sun wasn’t going to appear the whole day. It was time for the morning walk.   As I walked, a unique double caramel coloured hibiscus was blooming. I remembered having sown its cutting. To identify it was now very difficult as they all have got mixed up.   To doubly ensure that this one stays as part of our collection, I decided to snip a branch for the obvious. For which I returned to get a cutter. The mobile network has been down since the last two days, but I still decided to pick up the mobile. Just in case there was a fleeting opportunity to click something.   Oreo by now was waiting for m

UNFORGETTABLE MOMENTS

UNFORGETTABLE MOMENTS  LT COL NOEL ELLIS   19/IX/2021 It was a lovely rainy Sunday morning as I walked out of the door, still dark with the street lights on. Clouds were threatening to drizzle but it was pleasant, rather there was this slight chill in the air which gives you a shiver as you move out from a warmer home to the cooler outdoors.  Hoping to find my early morning feathered friends, I gave a small thanks to the creator as I moved for my walk. The Robin was as usual the first one to greet me, singing on the garden umbrella pole before it fluttered off to find the early worm.  One could hear the Mynah’s and the Bulbuls singing. The Munias chirping, the Crows cawing, Pigeons guttargooing, Doves cooing & Owls watching silently. Of course, the street dogs were growling in the far distance. Oreo was fast asleep after a hard day’s night and didn’t even bother to wag his tail.  The road was wet as if there had been a shower a short while ago. As the day broke, dark clouds gave w
