FLIGHT WITH A DIFFERENCE LT COL NOEL ELLIS 26/X/2023 The other day we went to see off someone very close. He was a good friend and also related to us. There was a sea of people from far and wide who had come to bid him farewell. All were talking in whispers about his work and personal conduct. It being par excellence. The close family shed a silent tear as they bade him goodbye. He too was silent but smiling, as if he understood the feeling of love being showered upon him. The final moment when he took off was extremely painful. The doors were closed and he was on a special flight. Who else was with him on his flight? Will he have an aisle seat or have a window view? Will the co-passenger be helpful and cooperative? Will there be any safety precautions? Will someone show him the exit doors? Will he be served food? Hope there is no turbulence. The destination has been described to us in great detail but never has anyone returned to give first hand feedback. I got h

A LOVELY DAY LT COL NOEL ELLIS 17/X/2023 What a start to our day it was! Loud thunder woke us up. Till yesterday the sky was crisp, blue, and clear. We must be hallucinating, I thought. As I walked out of the door while dawn broke, it made me shiver. The air was nippy, as if we were in Mussoorie. It was dark, unlike the time of the day. It was then I noticed the ‘Kali Ghata’ hovering over our colony. It took me a little while to absorb the change in weather. It was a sure sign of approaching winters. One shower which the clouds were threatening to, mornings and evenings would get chilly. The unexpected rain clouds in this month were harbingers of cold, is my experience of the desert. It would be pleasant for days to come till winters arrive in real earnest. An unusual heavy sound of aircrafts flying overhead caught my attention. It was unlike one routinely hears. Civil flights do go around our colony before landing once in a while. This sound was different. I prayed
