GAME SET AND MATCH

 GAME SET AND MATCH

Imagine you are playing a Tennis match. However, this match starts with a ‘set score’ of ‘love five’ and ‘game score’ of ‘love forty’. The only advantage is that you are serving.

The match referee is biased and has penalised you for ‘foot faults’ of all the other things. The linesmen are biased too and have given your ball ‘out’ when it was on the line a couple of times. The third umpire couldn’t do a thing.

The spectators are on your side. Knowing that you are capable of winning the match from here, they keep cheering you. The security gets nasty and muzzles them up. Those who got agitated and attacked the security were arrested and put in jail. You too were warned of the consequences, if your fans were not kept under check.

Your coach, physiotherapist, PR manager and all others supporting you were already under house arrest. Your present wife is under oath to keep her mouth shut or else she too goes to jail. You raise your voice; it falls on deaf ears. Your protest goes vain. You predict that you will be ‘made to lose’ this match and your prediction comes true.

The Umpire tells you where and how hard to serve. They also tell you whether you can return the ball to the opponent's court. You are fitter and much smarter than your opponent, but you are accused of taking drugs.

It is ‘game, set and match’. You served well but the opponent who was out of the circuit since more than four years returned to play. He got all his ‘bans’ quashed by the umpires and referees. You stood no choice but to keep playing till you lost and paid a penalty imposed on you for unfair play.

You were put behind bars for being supported by a rowdy crowd. The match got over prematurely. It was time for you to rot in jail. You are charged for everything under the sun.

You ask for lawyers; you are denied the one of your choice. They give you a tiny prison cell to rot. You are just Qaidi number 804. You look up to Allah. That’s all you can do.

Isn’t this situation befitting the Ex PM of Pakistan Imran Khan. Wasn’t his ousting known? Moreover, there is not one PM in that country who has not been jailed.

Charges galore await Imran, plus his Vazeere Kharja and even wife Bushra Begum. You never know if the ‘hangman’s noose’ would be awaiting him. What a pitiable state that country is in!

In 2019, I penned an article called ‘Chaddo Khan Saab’. It was in Punjabi, which the general public of Pakistan understands and addressed to Mr Imran Khan, where I had warned him of the consequences of taking pangas with the “establishment”. I had also warned him of the consequences of needling India through the so-called ‘jihadis’ and ‘pau kilo’ nuclear bombs.

Imran paid for being forthright and honest. Imagine his wife too has been put behind bars for not staying separated for the stipulated time before re-tying the knot (Nikah) with Mr Imran Khan as per Shariya law. A fine of 5 lakhs plus a seven-year term has been imposed besides more for other offences.

Would these terms be separate or run consequently, I am not aware. There were more than 150 cases against him. The way things are going, he might be jailed for another 100 years. His political career has been sealed. His ‘Bat’ , the symbol of PTI, the party he had formed more than two decades ago, has been taken away from him. It is basically game over.

His political opponent, who was in exile, returned on the condition that cases against him be withdrawn and pardoned. With things well settled abroad, they will be the first ones to run away from Pakistan at the slightest danger to their lives or ‘lively hood’. The latter refers to 'politics' their politicians are good at.

The deep state will dictate how to govern from behind the scenes as usual. One step which deviates from their line and this ‘shareef man’ goes to jail. The military surely rules the roost.

Here was a man, who still has a popular support base cannot stand in elections due on 08 Feb 24. His loyalists are standing as ‘independents’. However, the ballot will go in the favour of the candidate already ‘decided’ by the ‘Khaki’s’. Irrespective where you stamp the ballot paper, the vote will go to ‘Noon League’ is already written on the wall.

Hopefully, people of Pakistan will vote wisely. If not a win, “PTI” can they still be the main opposition party or will it be game set and match for Imran? I wonder!!!!!!!

SCENE AT ELLIS’ RESTAURANT

LT COL NOEL ELLIS   04/XI/2024   Every morning the scene in the Ellis’ restaurant is so refreshing. The notes birds sing sounds like ‘reveille’ being sounded by the buglers. The ‘scenario’ keeps varying with arrival of different birds at different timings.   It is like being a restaurant owner, working solo with minimum help. Yours truly is the waiter, housekeeper, cook, receptionist, barman, purchase manager, accountant, and storekeeper of this shack. Imagine!   Foremost thing in the morning is housekeeping of the garden area, followed by watering the pots. This gives the plants a nice bath, like kids being readied for school.   The first set of ‘clients’ called the ‘Tailor Birds’ appear. They love to hunt for insects which get disturbed by the watering ritual. They sing and dance, hop and skip and carry on chasing moths and worms, without bothering about my presence.   By then the Bulbuls and the Sparrows start lini...

A TRIBUTE TO INDIA’s FINANCIAL WIZARD

LT COL NOEL ELLIS   27/XII/2024   Last night one heard a heart-breaking news of the passing away of Dr Manmohan Singh. A sardar with a big Dil and a sharp Dimag. My heartfelt condolences to the family and every citizen of India.   Let me share an anecdote of a chance encounter with his office three decades ago. It was in 1993-94, he was the then ‘Finance Minister’ of India.   The story goes that we were part of the "Ski-Himalaya Expedition". The expedition was preparing to traverse a 1500 km ski touring voyage from Karakoram Pass to the base of Mount Kailash in Nepal passing through the states of J&K, Himachal Pradesh and UP.   Those days, it was not easy to fund the expedition. We found a few sponsors. Let me confess, we were under the Army adventure cell for the preparations. The internal ‘red tapeism’ was killing us. Delays in procuring equipment due to the complex ‘Kagzi Karwai’ was taking too much time. Our window of skiin...
