THE NO BELL PRIZE

It was such a relief to hear that someone who thought ‘no end to himself ‘by bulldozing everyone, creating chaos militarily and economically all over the world was shown the door from the coveted peace prize.

God knows how many wars he could/would start, being the most powerful man on earth and then go on to win that Peace Prize.

This article is both on a serious note and in humour with no intention to hurt the one and only President of the “Divided World”.

If not this award, he could move all his resources for winning some others. This man alone has spoilt all international relations, intervened in every continent and country poking his nose and spoiling the broth with his cooks spelt with an r after c.

“Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely”, is apt to describe him. He thinks he is rational but he is the absolute opposite. This world is at the brink of a nuclear war. You never know, he may ensure it brings “ultimate peace on earth”.

Business is the backbone of any country. But doing it with “blinkers on” is a very different ball game altogether. One can be selfish but being egoist and to say it is “either my way or the highway”, is not correct.

I was not surprised the way he gave the UNGA President a dressing down recently. He has pulled out aid, withdrawn from the environmental summit, leaving so many in limbo. Then, if he expects a “jadoo ki japhee” from the world. High hopes.

Who is he? What got him thinking that way? Who are his advisors? Why does he suffer form this ‘illusion’ of a ‘superiority complex’? Countries have now braced up to take ‘pangas’ with him. He better watch out.

‘DT’s’ exclusion from the Nobel Peace Prize shocks none but him. He boasts of historic deals and brokerage on peace but his legacy and temperament are more like a trail of disrupted alliances, broken accords, and new uncertainties. He is losing ‘friends’ fast.

The Nobel Committee understands ‘multilateral harmony’ very well. It could hardly have endorsed a man whose foreign policy has thrived more on ‘confrontation’.

Trump’s “peace through strength” doctrine may have yielded symbolic gains but with no results on ground. It has only bred ‘volatility’. The dismantling of the Iran nuclear sites has reignited tensions in West Asia.

Withdrawal from the ‘Paris Climate Agreement’ undermined collective climate action. The trade war with Russia and China has unsettled global markets. Both of them have shown him the middle finger. If peace was ever the prize, chaos became the companion.

His ambitions extend beyond diplomacy. His economic policies, anchored in nationalism and protectionism, have had far reaching consequences. The tariffs have reshaped supply chains and strained developing economies.

For India, his unpredictable trade stance and revoking preferential tariffs and pressurising IT and pharmaceutical exports can only be viewed as a “partnership” through the myopic lens of “transactional gains”.

India has proved resilient. New Delhi neither yielded to Trump’s arm-twisting on defence purchases nor on its ties with Russia and Iran. Instead, India is quietly strengthening self-reliance, diversified trade avenues, and modifying its policy, especially towards the US.

In doing so, it signalled that the age of unilateral American dictates has lost their relevance. India will move on.

His greatest challenge lies not in winning prizes, but in managing his ego, when nations refuse to bend. For a man who views ‘diplomacy as a stage’ and ‘success as applause’, rejection often triggers escalation. India is prepared.

The denial of the Nobel Peace Prize is not a punishment, but a reflection of a world growing suspicious of strongmen who mistake disruption for reform and dominance for peace. The question is, whether this man will change? Hope good sense prevails.

Peace does not come from the barrel of the gun, they say. He has been denied the Nobel peace prize for obvious reasons and rightly so. Let me suggest a few alternate awards for him instead. Enjoy the pun.

1.      The Global Grandest Prize for Self-Congratulation.

2.      The “No-Bell” Prize. (Given to those- jis ka hame ghanta faraq nahi parta)

3.      The OscaGramNobelCup of Greatness (Self Proclaimed Category).

4.      The Planetary Prize for Perpetual Self-Promotion.

5.      The ‘Make Awards Great Again’ corroded Iron Medal.

Many Newspaper headlines would read. The first ever “No-Bell OscarGrammyNobelCup of Tremendousness of ego”. The other headline could read, “you have to be ‘Noble’ and ‘at peace’ with yourself to win a Nobel Peace prize. He could also be awarded “The Nobel prize of Untruths” or even “The Global Economy disturbance platinum medal”. The rear Earth prize sponsored by the not so Sharif, and Failed Marshal of the banana republic of you know who...

The list is never ending, but all this is in jest.

After reading this, will he give me a visa “IF” I ever apply? I wonder!!!!!!

  1. No-bell committee at long last triumphed over a person who thought that he couldn't be Trumped. The noisiest HOS was awarded with a bell that made no sound but was the loudest in its silent statement. Well written Noel.

FINGER ON YOUR LIPS

LT COL NOEL ELLIS   29/IV/2025   What has happened to Pakistan? While India is doing Fauji Exercises, Pakistan has mobilised for what! I agree that the people of India want revenge. But, from whom? Our PM has only said that “we will not leave the terrorists and their supporters till the end of the Earth”. He has never said he will sort out Pakistan, or has he?   It has been hilarious watching discussions on Paki social media channels. They seem to have already given up. Our RM meets the PM and Pakistan starts shitting bricks. They talk about jazba and gazwa, and start telling us about their nuclear arsenal. 160 I suppose. By the way we will send across one equivalent to your 160 if need be.   There is a saying, ‘Chor ki Dari main tinka” literal meaning is, a straw in a thief’s beard. However, the deep meaning is that a guilty person reveals his guilt through his behaviour, even unintentionally. Clearly, “a guilty conscious needs no accuser”...

SCENE AT ELLIS’ RESTAURANT

LT COL NOEL ELLIS   04/XI/2024   Every morning the scene in the Ellis’ restaurant is so refreshing. The notes birds sing sounds like ‘reveille’ being sounded by the buglers. The ‘scenario’ keeps varying with arrival of different birds at different timings.   It is like being a restaurant owner, working solo with minimum help. Yours truly is the waiter, housekeeper, cook, receptionist, barman, purchase manager, accountant, and storekeeper of this shack. Imagine!   Foremost thing in the morning is housekeeping of the garden area, followed by watering the pots. This gives the plants a nice bath, like kids being readied for school.   The first set of ‘clients’ called the ‘Tailor Birds’ appear. They love to hunt for insects which get disturbed by the watering ritual. They sing and dance, hop and skip and carry on chasing moths and worms, without bothering about my presence.   By then the Bulbuls and the Sparrows start lini...

IF THERE IS A WAR…...

LT COL NOEL ELLIS   28/IV/2025   I remember the 1971 war as a small child. We were in Kapurthala Punjab, very close to the Pakistan border. It was an evening in December, I do not remember the exact date. While returning from a friends house, the declaration of war was done as I skipped along the ‘Thandi Sarak’ of Kapurthala.   The gist was that a vehicle with loud speakers was telling people to head home as an "emergency" had been declared and war had started. I ran as fast as I could, shivering with fear and my heart beating unusually fast. Though I was a lap baby when the 1965 war had taken place, it appeared serious business now.   Overnight, Dad and other Uncles started digging trenches infront of our homes. Carbon paper was no dearth in a teachers house, so mom got into an overdrive to stick them to the glass windows. Though the glass had been painted during the 1965 war, some broken panes had been replaced. Mom told ...
