THE INCURABLES

A new season of “Big Boss” has started & Sallu is at the helm of affairs, I reckon. God alone knows how many people he will admonish this time for their rude, uncouth, unbecoming and uncivilized behaviour. I somehow can’t stand such atrocious conduct of people. To add to the flavour and fervour, they keep adding and subtracting people. This time a famous gazal and bhajan singer of yore is on the cross wire. How long he and his date are going to last or made to last, time would tell?

I lost interest in this show many moons back. Basically it was personal behaviour patterns which got me off the hook. I am certain there will be nothing new this time. The padded make up, artificiality, the makes and breaks, flings and romance, torturing and tormenting they do to each other makes it difficult to understand the actual character of a person. Participants keep hiding behind veils of some kind. I have nothing against the show but I find no take away, with human relations hitting the lowest ebb, show after show.

Such incorrigible people are better avoided, like persons who are cunning and wicked. How people change colours to become a certain type, especially in shows like this? The level to which people stoop for personal gains and then walk away with a straight face is unbelievable. Double crossing, hitting below the belt, inciting and keeping opponents constantly on guard is what I have observed. May be, they are very good actors or it’s the prize money or maybe it is fame and business they shall get after the show. Money makes the mare go.

Why do they manipulate a situation to suit their requirements? Same situation is told in different forms by adding, removing or twisting facts selectively and by taking fellow contestants in full confidence to believe what they say is the truth.

Such folks stay in a make belief world cut off from reality. They pit one against another, conjecture, basically playing a dirty kind of politics, conniving and strategising against each other. At whatever cost, to win is the aim. Such people are really dangerous. What they say and what they mean are two different things?

To gain some mileage, one-up-man-ship, self praise and gathering followers by intimidation, misleading people, so that people feel attacked, kind of incompetent, afraid or hated by others. The methods adopted to do all this are seen in the corporate too. Creation of a rift and then build upon it becomes second nature. Having moles and spies adds to the misery.

The trail of lies, white, black, blue or green continues. Blatant is the word, the way some politicians also do and then deny it. If caught, they never own up and say sorry. They actually care two hoots and continue justifying what they said. In those lies they keep adding juice, spice and titbits to make it look legitimate & authentic. Such people are untrustworthy.

If someone takes pride in directly or indirectly hurting your feelings or even use someone else to hurt you & emotionally blackmail you, is surely a mean & evil person. These kinds of people have a different kind of inner conscious. They can add fuel to the fire. They enjoy seeing you pained and gain sadistic pleasure out of it.

When such people become leaders they refuse to take on the responsibility for their subordinates. They pass the blame and the buck, basically lacking moral courage. Then they start manipulating peoples’ minds, even by giving threats to prove they are right.

Some people are by your side till the time your graph is going up, moment you need them they back out. They cannot come out of their comfort zones. All your friendship, trust and faith etc get buried deep down under instantly. They even backstab. Nasty people they are!

Many just can’t see you successful. They hate if someone else is better than them. They can only relate to people who are not as proficient. Some portray something externally but are actually something else from within. They have dual kind of personalities. Some have the capability to weave a different story for the same event for multiple people. For attaining success they can even kill their kin metaphorically.

Last but not the least, they use you, your expertise, your knowledge and then throw you out from the window. Once your utility is over they will refuse to even recognise you or even acknowledge your presence. Shameless is a mild word for them.

Be that as it may. Small boss or big boss, politician or otherwise, such people are better avoided, is my view. Haven’t we all encountered such incurable people in your lives? I wonder!!!!!!!!!!

SCENE AT ELLIS’ RESTAURANT

LT COL NOEL ELLIS   04/XI/2024   Every morning the scene in the Ellis’ restaurant is so refreshing. The notes birds sing sounds like ‘reveille’ being sounded by the buglers. The ‘scenario’ keeps varying with arrival of different birds at different timings.   It is like being a restaurant owner, working solo with minimum help. Yours truly is the waiter, housekeeper, cook, receptionist, barman, purchase manager, accountant, and storekeeper of this shack. Imagine!   Foremost thing in the morning is housekeeping of the garden area, followed by watering the pots. This gives the plants a nice bath, like kids being readied for school.   The first set of ‘clients’ called the ‘Tailor Birds’ appear. They love to hunt for insects which get disturbed by the watering ritual. They sing and dance, hop and skip and carry on chasing moths and worms, without bothering about my presence.   By then the Bulbuls and the Sparrows start lini...

A TRIBUTE TO INDIA’s FINANCIAL WIZARD

LT COL NOEL ELLIS   27/XII/2024   Last night one heard a heart-breaking news of the passing away of Dr Manmohan Singh. A sardar with a big Dil and a sharp Dimag. My heartfelt condolences to the family and every citizen of India.   Let me share an anecdote of a chance encounter with his office three decades ago. It was in 1993-94, he was the then ‘Finance Minister’ of India.   The story goes that we were part of the "Ski-Himalaya Expedition". The expedition was preparing to traverse a 1500 km ski touring voyage from Karakoram Pass to the base of Mount Kailash in Nepal passing through the states of J&K, Himachal Pradesh and UP.   Those days, it was not easy to fund the expedition. We found a few sponsors. Let me confess, we were under the Army adventure cell for the preparations. The internal ‘red tapeism’ was killing us. Delays in procuring equipment due to the complex ‘Kagzi Karwai’ was taking too much time. Our window of skiin...
