DESCENT AGAINST THE ESTABLISHMENT

Pakistan presented its budget in their Parliament a couple of days back of some “cahubees arab or kharab crore’. My ears are still ringing hearing that figure. Can the Pakis count? I doubt.

Their health care budget has been slashed, so has the education budget. However, their developmental budget got a booster shot. That is where the ‘moola’ is.

It was no surprise that their ‘Military budget’ has been increased by almost 4.5 %. Obviously, they call the shots, though they lost all wars, including half their country. Now, the terrorists they trained are playing merry hell with them. Serves them right.

Both our countries became independent together. Where are they and where are we? The five A’s (Allah, Army, Amreeka, Afghanistan and Arab) and one C (Cheen) have consumed them so badly that they cannot surface again, economically, politically, and militarily.

Add to the woes the 2xTs, who are now engaging with them on a daily basis. The ‘Taliban’ whom they trained, funded, nurtured, and encouraged and ‘taxes’ they are levying on the common man of Pakistan.

‘B’ wants to separate, ‘KPK’ is fed up. People of ‘K’ are agitating for freedom. The western ‘I’ doesn’t see eye to eye and the Eastern ‘I’ doesn’t want to engage. Poor guys are stuck between the devil and the deep sea. ‘Implosion’ and if need be ‘explosion’ of sorts.

To add to their distresses, I heard a few of their “selected” representatives airing their views on their pitiable state of affairs. Their so-called budget session was more of a ‘confession and stark reality’ to their ‘speaker’ who cannot speak.

Their ‘Ieen’ or constitution of which they haven’t implemented even an iota, so their parliamentarians claim, came into being in 1974. It took them 27 years after gaining independence to make one. Poor guys did not let even one Prime Minister complete his or her full term. From Ya Ya Khan to Musharraf and beyond, it was the uniformed who ruled overtly or covertly. Now they want democracy.

Plus, they went nuclear and keep telling the world that ‘sadde kol pau kilo ke jauhri bamb hain’. What will they use it for? May ‘Allah’ give them wisdom. Ghar main nahi hain dane, amma chali bhunana.

Their ‘debt trap’ is mounting by the day. The interest on their loans is what they are manipulating to repay by borrowing from you know who. China and the Arabs are not buying their excuses. US has stepped back.

Plus, they are printing money, a cause of rising inflation. Chadar utni failo jitne pair hon. They don’t have a chadar or charpai but the “boots” want more.

$ is not in their control. Oil is being smuggled through Iran border under the very nose of their security forces openly. Atta is beyond the reach of the commoner. Rates of electricity are sky rocketing at 62 rupees a unit. Thus, ‘Dakaiti’ (looting/arson) is on the rise, were some of the confessions of their ‘nominated’ representatives.

Extortion mafias are being run by militant groups which mushroomed with the blessings of their establishment. Policing is at its very low. Corruption is unstoppable and they dream of ‘Kaid-e-Azam’s la-la land.

Their parliament passes only those bills/budget which is thrust upon them. Who runs the country then? The politicians I heard were of the opinion that the ‘Establishment’ has to get out of the ‘Jamhuriat’.

The MNAs have no powers but the Army can run real estate businesses, decide posting of bureaucrats, run bakeries, industries etc. Retired officers make huge farm houses on canal fed land. They have properties abroad, children study abroad, they take treatment abroad, leaving the common Pakistani to look up to Allah and Mullah.

The parliamentarians questioned the ‘Karkardagi’ and ‘Hiqmat-e-Amli’ of the security forces and want them out from the governance loop. One even went to call the establishments doing ‘goondagardi’.

In the name of security, the forces are putting the common man to discomfort and inconvenience. They pick up people at will, carry out killings and no one is held responsible. Public dissent is growing against the establishment.

The privileges of the privileged need to be cut. The VIP culture, the protocols their elite enjoy, the pay and perks the parliamentarians take need to be slashed, were some of the measures suggested. Charity begins at home, and parliamentarians need not be paid from the exchequer, one said.

The growing hate for the establishment, the uneasiness and suffocation of parliamentarians, besides the rising prices, mounting debts, inefficiency of the military to eliminate ‘dahsahtgardi’ is now brewing and echoing from their parliament. The mood is beginning to change for their good, I hope.

They wanted to start afresh after a complete revamp of how the state needs to be governed to get their awam out of gareebi and gurbat (poverty) for which they need tarbeeyat (education). Earlier the better, otherwise, Sannu Key.

Will their establishment allow such voices of descent? I wonder!!!!!!

SCENE AT ELLIS’ RESTAURANT

LT COL NOEL ELLIS   04/XI/2024   Every morning the scene in the Ellis’ restaurant is so refreshing. The notes birds sing sounds like ‘reveille’ being sounded by the buglers. The ‘scenario’ keeps varying with arrival of different birds at different timings.   It is like being a restaurant owner, working solo with minimum help. Yours truly is the waiter, housekeeper, cook, receptionist, barman, purchase manager, accountant, and storekeeper of this shack. Imagine!   Foremost thing in the morning is housekeeping of the garden area, followed by watering the pots. This gives the plants a nice bath, like kids being readied for school.   The first set of ‘clients’ called the ‘Tailor Birds’ appear. They love to hunt for insects which get disturbed by the watering ritual. They sing and dance, hop and skip and carry on chasing moths and worms, without bothering about my presence.   By then the Bulbuls and the Sparrows start lining up around the trees, urging me to ‘o

LOCUST WITHOUT A “L”

LOCUST WITHOUT A “L”   LT COL NOEL ELLIS   14/IX/2024   They say if you wish for something with a noble heart, it gets fulfilled. Had I asked for the moon, I would have got it today. Was it a coincidence? I am not sure. To find out please read on.   A friend of mine had asked me about ‘good’ and ‘bad’ insects in a garden, on which I wrote an article. In that, I had mentioned a kind of grasshopper called the ‘Locust’. It is a bright yellowish green insect. It is sometimes seen in our garden. They create havoc if found in swarms, but one or two do not harm much.   After writing the article, I wished I had a photo of the Locust. Digging it out from the archives could add colour but that would have been time consuming.   Having posted the article, I walked out of the house to check on the blooms of the day. There was a large variety with vibrant colours gracing the garden. A treat to the eyes and soul.   Just then my eyes fell on a bamboo stick supporting a vi
