“All is not well”, coming from a ‘Dil Khush’ person like me must have a solid reason behind it. I further go to say ‘all is in the well’ in J&K with the Armed Forces taking so many casualties in the past few months. Is it acceptable to the nation?

Are we recruited only to die? Bugle calls, wreaths, and …. Amar rahe slogans, a guard of honour with full ceremonials and firing at the cremation ground, handing over the flag to the NOK, is this what we are going to keep witnessing every day. No sir, not me. Let us make this a movement to set things right as a dutiful citizen of India.

Counter insurgency grid has been pierced and perforated by these dastards. We are not willing to accept it. Boots on ground have been depleted, we are just moot spectators. The politicians have denuded troops from one place and pushed them to another frontier. At what cost?

Do we have our priorities right? Bragging about the after effects of abrogation of article 370, normalcy, peace, increase in tourism doesn’t gel with me. Stone pelting has gone, good, that doesn’t mean ‘all is well’ at all.

These ‘vermin’ are there and alive. They are digging rat holes and shifting bases with 400% local support. There is no way they can survive otherwise. Their burrows have to be smoked out. Their entrances and exits need to be choked and sealed.

All those caught should be sent to the 72 they yearn for, along with their supporters in broad daylight. Every life lost needs to be avenged. The mode, method and modus operandi can be worked out later.

My folded hands ‘Khama gani’ to the peaceniks. My apologies to the back track diplomacy kinds, my middle finger to those who propose talks. Above all, my dare to the dhotiwalas and babu ji’s who decide for the forces what is right but ask for an explanation when things go wrong.

The challenge to keep the economy running vis a vis spending on your armed forces can be discussed till cows come home. Is it worth reducing men on ground?

Let me put it this way. Why does a train meet with an accident? Human failure, equipment failure, inefficient man power are a few reasons. But, if you remove the gang man on patrol, checking the fish plates and nuts provides an opportunity for the miscreants to remove them.

If the engine driver does not see the signal, or interprets it wrongly, the fate of the train is an accident. If the crew of the engine is not alert or reduced, can we expect a smooth journey?

This is what is happening to the armed forces in J&K. Politicians and Bureaucrats are doing it on purpose. Each man killed in action is just a number for a ‘starred question’ and a debate for ‘Kari Ninda’.

Then why are we not reading the correct signals? Why are we not anticipating the moves of the terrorists? Why can’t we take proactive action? Why can’t the abettors be caught? Why can’t we increase boots, eyes, and ears on the ground?

America has fought no war on its own land, but see the amount of forces they have. What for? Are they going to war with Russia or China? The answer is NO. But do they have a deterrent, the answer is sure yes. Can they afford it? Yes. Can we afford it? The answer is yes, but politics in our country has a different agenda altogether. Politicians have different priorities. They have vote banks to please.

The state of J&K has been in turmoil since ages. Let it be for one decade more depending on how soon we make it safe. Time could be less or more. Let us do what is needed to flush these pests out. Let us also destroy their breeding grounds inside India and outside as well. Political will is needed.

Enough of pussy footing and please all approach has made these terrorists more defiant. There is trouble which needs to be sorted now. More coffins draped in the national flag are not acceptable.

A few Netas are needed to sacrifice themselves to get things going. With one attack on parliament the Armed forces were mobilised and kept on the border for one complete year. With surmounting deaths of Armed forces personnel, not one ant moves.

If Pakistan needs to be sorted out, so be it. If Hindustan needs sorting out in terms of policy, policing, manpower, intelligence, and support from the parliamentarians, then so be it. Let us detox our own body first. The pollutants, contaminants and toxic neighbours can be taken on thereafter.

When can I hear ‘all is well’ in J&K? I wonder!!!!!!

    Not a truer word spoken in anger or anguish. None of the politicians/ bureaucrats have any of their kids serving in the Forces, to know what it's lose a dear one.. Pakistan and the fifth columnists from here in India should be dealt with, with all seriousness.

SCENE AT ELLIS’ RESTAURANT

    LT COL NOEL ELLIS   04/XI/2024   Every morning the scene in the Ellis’ restaurant is so refreshing. The notes birds sing sounds like ‘reveille’ being sounded by the buglers. The ‘scenario’ keeps varying with arrival of different birds at different timings.   It is like being a restaurant owner, working solo with minimum help. Yours truly is the waiter, housekeeper, cook, receptionist, barman, purchase manager, accountant, and storekeeper of this shack. Imagine!   Foremost thing in the morning is housekeeping of the garden area, followed by watering the pots. This gives the plants a nice bath, like kids being readied for school.   The first set of ‘clients’ called the ‘Tailor Birds’ appear. They love to hunt for insects which get disturbed by the watering ritual. IF THERE IS A WAR…...

    LT COL NOEL ELLIS   28/IV/2025   I remember the 1971 war as a small child. We were in Kapurthala Punjab, very close to the Pakistan border. It was an evening in December, I do not remember the exact date. While returning from a friends house, the declaration of war was done as I skipped along the ‘Thandi Sarak’ of Kapurthala.   The gist was that a vehicle with loud speakers was telling people to head home as an "emergency" had been declared and war had started. I ran as fast as I could, shivering with fear and my heart beating unusually fast. Though I was a lap baby when the 1965 war had taken place, it appeared serious business now.   Overnight, Dad and other Uncles started digging trenches infront of our homes. Carbon paper was no dearth in a teachers house, so mom got into an overdrive to stick them to the glass windows. A TRIBUTE TO INDIA’s FINANCIAL WIZARD

  LT COL NOEL ELLIS   27/XII/2024   Last night one heard a heart-breaking news of the passing away of Dr Manmohan Singh. A sardar with a big Dil and a sharp Dimag. My heartfelt condolences to the family and every citizen of India.   Let me share an anecdote of a chance encounter with his office three decades ago. It was in 1993-94, he was the then ‘Finance Minister’ of India.   The story goes that we were part of the "Ski-Himalaya Expedition". The expedition was preparing to traverse a 1500 km ski touring voyage from Karakoram Pass to the base of Mount Kailash in Nepal passing through the states of J&K, Himachal Pradesh and UP.   Those days, it was not easy to fund the expedition. RUNNING TO TOWN

  LT COL NOEL ELLIS   24/IV/2024   As they say, “Jab geedar ki ‘maut’ ati hai woh Shahar ki taraf bhagta hai”. (When a jackal wants to die, it runs towards the town). It simply implies that when someone is in ‘deep trouble’, he takes certain wrong steps and gets into agony himself. A SPEECH

  LT COL NOEL ELLIS   19/IV/2025   Imagine when your “sir ka jhoomar becomes gale ki haddi”, then what happens. That was one Jumla I picked up from the Pak Army Chief’s speech which he delivered in Islamabad to Overseas Pakistanis. They are dual citizenship holders. Their ticket it appears had been paid by the state of Pakistan, I reckon.   An Army Chief addressing a gathering of people who at the very first instance decided to “Pakistan se Zinda Bhag” is uncalled for. If I read correctly between the lines, it was not to impress his countrymen but somehow convince the audience to remit dollars to ensure he and his ilk get their salaries, a plot of land on retirement and an assured pension. Rest of the countrymen can scavenge for all he cares.   Above all, the PM of Pakistan and his cabinet were in attendance.   IT IS CHRISTMAS TIME AGAIN   LT COL NOEL ELLIS   23/XII/2024   Christmas time is here. We waited all year for the ‘yule tide’ to come. Cold weather, celebrations, parties, carol singing, pot luck dinners, picnic, socialising, variety of winter flowers, Christmas trees, non veg preparations, baking Christmas cakes and Pakwans is synonymous to Christmas. Last but not the least we fondly remember the ones who have slept in the Lord.   The house looks Christmassy and smells Christmassy too. Buntings, decorations, lighting up the home, and decorating the Christmas tree is done.
